Hi, I’m John Ferguson, founder of the FinancePeopleCoaching practice.

As an ex-Group Finance Director, I bring over 25 years of experience in finance leadership, including senior roles in corporate finance, FP&A, transformation and business partnering. I previously worked in both the public and private sector, in companies that are privately owned to large multi-nationals, with stints in the UK, Germany and India. I am also a trained professional coach with a track record of developing high-performing finance teams and guiding individuals to achieve career breakthroughs.

In 2025, I reached a point in my life where I recognised (through personal reflection and self-awareness) that my experiences, lessons learned and stories afforded me the opportunity to “share and give back” by helping others grow, continue to learn personally and have fun along the way.  And that led me to starting my coaching practice, FinancePeopleCoaching.

I am an associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, a Chartered Global Management Accountant member, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and in my spare time, follow Liverpool FC, love travelling and enjoy cooking – the last two a legacy of growing up and living in Malaysia in my younger days!

Through my coaching practice, I run my Making the Leap Coaching™ programme for both Corporate and Individuals, designed to help mid-career finance professionals make their first steps onto finance leadership roles and help build leadership resilience in finance teams. I also work with CFOs to help embed behavioural changes following a Finance Transformation.
